1970’s BC Box Transformation

While having a beautiful, central location in Parksville BC, the new owners of this minimally updated 1970’s split-level home were hoping to update the homes’ interiors, address hazmat and structural concerns, as well as create a legal suite for a rental opportunity. Right away we repaired the issues in the foundation; levelled the home; and addressed all the remediation concerns, in alignment with the intended final design. With these concerns alleviated, we began redesigning the kitchen layout, enclosing the kitchen’s previous access to what was now the rental suite, and thereby extending the recently renovated kitchen cabinetry, resulting in a much larger, luxurious kitchen.

All bathrooms received all new plumbing fixtures, custom tile floors and walls, new cabinetry, countertops, paint and trims throughout the home. Amenities were updated, going from a large electric hot water tank to providing a gas hot water on demand, providing much needed additional storage, and efficiency. The suite was renovated to meet code requirements, allowing the homeowners to also increase rental opportunities in their community.

Overall, with every part of the interior receiving new, more contemporary detailing, and some key quality of life upgrades, this historically neglected home is now nearly indistinguishable from a brand new home–allowing the owners a safe, beautiful space to begin their family/the next generation, close to work, amenities, and most importantly, the beach!
